This film originated as a component of Orson Welles’ Mercury Theatre stage production of William Gillette’s 1894 comedy. The story follows a New York playboy who escapes the wrath of his mistress's jealous husband by assuming the identity of a Cuban plantation owner awaiting the arrival of a mail-order bride. Originally intended to accompany the live stage performance, the film was never publicly shown due to a lack of projection equipment. Long considered lost, a workprint was found in 2008, leading to the film's premiere in 2013.
