Time Traveller: The Girl Who Leapt Through Time 2010

In 2010, (/actor/narumi-yasuda) works as a pharmaceutical researcher secretly developing a formula for time travel. After a car accident, she is left comatose. She briefly regains consciousness and asks her daughter Akari Yoshiyama(/actor/riisa-naka) to travel back in time to 1972 and deliver a message to her first love, (/actor/kanji-ishimaru). Akari mistakenly travels to 1974 and befriends (/actor/akiyoshi-nakao), who welcomes her into his apartment while she seeks a way back to her own time.

< Ryota Mizoroki > pursues a dream of becoming a renowned director, and Akari aids in filming a movie with him during their time together. She also meets her father in the past, and the two of them begin to piece together a fragile connection across time. Akari and Ryota place a personal ad for (/actor/kanji-ishimaru) to meet them in the lab where Akari first appeared, hoping for a chance to fix what’s been broken by time.

Yet when the scheduled meeting arrives, Ryota is overwhelmed by grief over his father’s sudden death and cannot appear. Akari delivers the message to (/actor/kanji-ishimaru), conveying that her mother remembers the promise he made to visit her in the future. Kazuo shares with Akari the history he has with her mother. Kazuko had met Kazuo in a middle-school science lab and, by inhaling the fumes of his time-travel formula, gained the ability to jump through brief moments of time. He later erased her memory of him, and now it seems he intends to do the same to Akari.

Akari asks to say goodbye to Ryota, who does not know when she will return to her own time. He bids her farewell in confusion as he heads out on a day trip, and he gives her a silent movie film to keep. Akari soon realizes too late that Ryota is about to board a bus that will crash off a cliff and claim the lives of all aboard. She rushes to intervene, but Kazuo stops her from altering the past and erases her memory of both himself and Ryota.

Returning home, she finds her mother awake and well, and discovers the film she never consciously remembers receiving. Watching it, Akari is moved to tears, even though she cannot name the reason. She then walks into the cherry blossoms, the same scene that appeared in Ryota’s film, stepping forward into a quiet, memory-laden future.
