Harvard-educated Danny Collins Rudy Vallée and street-smart Mike Armstrong Richard Lane team up after a chance meeting to form what becomes the city’s most successful talent agency, driving a new era of entertainment in New York. Mike is drawn to Frances Lewis Rosemary Lane, a nightclub and Broadway singer, and he hopes to propel her to national fame with his and Danny’s help. Danny, however, sees Frances as a self-centered opportunist who would exploit Mike’s affections to advance her own career, a dynamic that seeds tension between the two men.

Frances’s maneuvering gradually drives a wedge between them. Around the same time, Danny and his assistant Off-Beat Davis meet Frances’s maid Kitty Brown Ann Miller, a shy but dazzling tap-dancer, and they set out to find her work, imagining she could become a valuable asset for their growing operation. Without Mike at the helm, their agency struggles to gain momentum, and Mike’s own ventures fail to take off despite his engagement to Frances.

When Danny lands the chance to produce a New York-based variety show, Kitty and Joan Merrill Joan Merrill are lined up as headliners, and the two old partners reconcile, believing they can seal the deal with Mike’s support. Frances, however, uses blackmail, threatening to break Mike’s heart if she is not cast as the star of the show. Mike eventually uncovers the truth, sees Frances for what she truly is, and decides to walk away. Reunited, Danny and Mike press forward to develop the show that centers on Kitty, solidifying their renewed partnership.

The film culminates in a lively musical finale, with the Stooges—[Moe Howard], [Curly Howard], and Larry Fine—entertaining the audience with a memorable rhumba number. They are joined by co-stars Blanche Stewart as Brenda and Elvia Allman as Cobina, with Curly in Carmen Miranda–style flair, bringing the story to a festive and humorous close.
