Suki Sharla Cheung Man is a rising financial advisor who often accompanies her boss, Mr. Wong, to dinner meetings that pulse with high-stakes deals. Her boyfriend James Cheung Kwok-Leung and his best friend John Michael Wong, a CCB officer, decide to slip a hidden wire into Suki’s purse to uncover whether she’s having an affair. What starts as a personal suspicion quickly spirals into a tense web of corruption, where private loyalties collide with public accountability.
Through the wire, they overhear Mr. Wong and Mr. Lee negotiating kickbacks tied to fake accounts meant to help Mr. Lee secure massive loans, and they hear plans for insider trading by purchasing stock in United Corporation before it is poised for a takeover by their associate Mr. Cheng. The conversations paint a portrait of a finance world where fraud is routine and trust is a costly luxury. After Mr. Lee tries to persuade Suki to quit her job and join him, she insists she’ll talk to Mr. Wong first, leaving the door open but the outcome far from certain.
Suki retrieves the wire and agrees to help James and John investigate, thrusting her into a dangerous liaison between corporate crime and personal survival. Meanwhile, the plot thickens when Mr. Cheng is killed in a violent traffic incident, and John purchases 100,000 shares of United Corporation stock in a move that will later haunt all involved. The next day, in his office, Mr. Wong asks Suki to flee with him to escape Mr. Lee, a suggestion that underscores how quickly the situation has escalated from suspicion to peril.
James and John act quickly, arresting Mr. Wong and seizing the evidence. But Mr. Lee’s thugs strike back, killing Mr. Wong and seizing the files. John pursues the criminals and kills several of them to reclaim the evidence, including documents that reveal Mr. Lee was being blackmailed. The fallout shakes the stock market too, as misinformation leaked by Cheng drives United Corporation’s stock into a reckless tumble.
The danger grows when thugs kidnap Suki and haul her aboard Mr. Lee’s boat. Lee taunts James with a false narrative—claiming that £10 million has already been transferred to his account to cast James and John as blackmailers—before James sets off in a race across the water. The pursuit ends in a vicious shootout on a small motorboat that explodes, leaving James badly burned and later found by fishermen who save him and shelter him with their community rather than exposing his survival.
Lee’s grip tightens as his men attack the CCB, wounding John and taking the crucial evidence. John wakes in a hospital and is immediately dismissed by Inspector Chan Tak Shun. The strain pushes Suki closer to Lee, and she becomes his lover, aiding in his schemes even as John confronts her about James’s disappearance. Lee’s plan marches forward, while Suki schemes to maneuver around him.
As the plot unfurls, Sir Liu emerges as a potential counterweight to Lee. Sir Liu—portrayed by Woo Fung Woo Fung—is hesitant about Lee’s activities and becomes entangled in the contract negotiations. Suki uses her wiles to manipulate Sir Liu but, in a double-crossing turn, partners with him to try and outsmart Lee and turn a profit for themselves. James learns of the tangled loyalties but is attacked by Lee’s thugs, barely escaping with help from allies on the water.
The climax tightens around a sealed contract: Sir Liu and Mr. Lee sign the deal just before John leaks the wire-taped evidence to expose the truth. Sir Liu grabs the contract and flees, inadvertently leaving Suki exposed to Lee’s wrath. In a final, devastating confrontation, Lee shoots at Suki as James charges to shield her, taking a fatal wound himself. In a last act of courage, James kills Mr. Lee, saving Suki from immediate danger, and a grieving Suki whispers through tears that she loved him too.
