The Platform Reviews & Ratings
Our Echo Score gives it 70/100, strongest in sensory experience (80) and weakest in rewatch factor (60).
The Platform Echo Score Breakdown
Overall, The Platform delivers a thought‑provoking dystopian thriller that succeeds through its striking visual design and resonant social commentary, while its narrative execution occasionally falters. Critics and many viewers commend the film’s inventive premise, strong cinematography, and effective score, which sustain tension throughout the confined setting. However, several reviewers note uneven pacing and underdeveloped character arcs that diminish emotional impact. Consequently, the movie offers a compelling yet imperfect experience that rewards attentive viewing.
Our own 0–100 rating, built from five aspects: art, character, story, the sensory experience and how well a film rewatches.
- Art & Craft 75
In terms of art and craft, the film excels in direction and cinematography, creating a claustrophobic atmosphere that heightens tension. Reviewers highlight the effective use of the vertical prison set, striking lighting, and a memorable score that underscore the dystopian mood. Some critics, however, point to the limited setting as a constraint that occasionally hampers visual variety. Overall, the technical execution is strong and contributes significantly to the film’s impact.
- Character & Emotion 70
When evaluating character and emotion, performances receive generally favorable remarks, with several reviewers praising nuanced portrayals and solid chemistry among the ensemble. The protagonist’s moral journey is cited as a compelling anchor for the narrative. Conversely, some critics argue that character motivations are under‑explored, leading to thin emotional depth. Thus, while acting quality is high, the film’s character development remains uneven.
- Story & Flow 65
In the domain of story and flow, the film’s core concept of a vertically stacked prison offers a fresh and provocative premise that many reviewers find original. The allegorical narrative successfully sparks discussions about inequality and human nature. However, pacing inconsistencies and occasional plot rambling are noted, with some critics feeling the message becomes muddled toward the end. Overall, the storyline is inventive but unevenly executed.
- Sensory Experience 80
The sensory experience is a standout element, with an unsettling score and precise sound design that amplify the film’s tension. Critics and viewers commend the stark visual palette, effective lighting, and gritty mise‑en‑scene that reinforce the claustrophobic setting. While the gore is graphic, it serves the narrative’s stark realism rather than gratuitous spectacle. Consequently, the auditory and visual components cohesively enhance the movie’s atmosphere.
- Rewatch Factor 60
Rewatch value is mixed; the film’s provocative themes and striking visuals encourage repeat viewings for deeper analysis, as noted by several reviewers. Yet, the intense violence and occasional narrative sluggishness deter some viewers from returning, exemplified by a critic who enjoyed it once but would not watch again. Overall, the movie offers moderate replay appeal, rewarding those interested in its allegorical content.

Spoilers ahead
Perempuán awakens inside a brutal, vertical prison that stretches to 333 floors, with one cell per level and two inmates sharing each space, all centered around a hollow shaft. A platform laden with food descends this shaft daily, pausing at every floor for only two minutes. Those on higher levels get first access to the meals, while inmates on lower floors risk starvation as the platform passes. Before entering, every prisoner is interviewed and selects a daily dish that will be provided each day on their level, and each inmate is allowed to bring one personal item. At the end of each month, prisoners are randomly reassigned to new floors, keeping everyone guessing about who will be their neighbor next.
