In the remote village of Emond’s Field, the arrival of a mysterious noblewoman coincides with a violent attack by humanoid monsters known as Trollocs. This woman, Moiraine Damodred, is a member of the Aes Sedai who warns that the servants of the Dark One are hunting one of three local youths: Rand al’Thor, Perrin Aybara, or Matrim Cauthon.
To escape this threat, the group flees with Moiraine and her Warder, Lan Mandragoran. They are joined by Egwene al’Vere, the gleeman Thom Merrilin, and the healer Nynaeve al’Meara. After a harrowing journey through the cursed city of Shadar Logoth, they reach the Eye of the World. It is here that Rand’s victory over the Forsaken Aginor and Ba’alzamon confirms Moiraine’s suspicion that he is the prophesied Dragon Reborn.
