The Sun Will Never Set 1961

After the patriarch’s death, an aristocratic family is torn apart, leaving a widow and five children to face a future they hadn’t planned. Ahmed steps up as the man of the house, guiding The Mother and helping his siblings navigate a new, precarious balance. His brother, Mamdouh, is a self-centered figure who refuses to follow his brother’s example and charts his own path, regardless of the costs.

Meanwhile, Layla, one of the daughters, challenges social norms by falling for her piano teacher, a married man many years older, and she ultimately marries him. The other two daughters accept their lot and move forward with their lives, each carrying the weight of tradition and expectation in their own way.

Layla and Mamdouh’s impulsive choices lead to painful outcomes: Layla divorces her husband soon after their marriage, and Mamdouh dies in a car accident after a quarrel.
