Sherine

Sherine Sayed Mohamed Abdel Wahab, known simply as Sherine, is an Egyptian singer, actress, and music judge celebrated as “The Voice of Egypt.” Born on 8 October 1980 in Cairo to a modest middle‑class family—her father a decorator and her mother a housewife—she grew up with a brother and a sister. From the age of nine, her vocal talent was nurtured by her school music teacher, who brought her to the Cairo Opera House where she sang in the children’s choir and soon after as a soloist, gaining early public acclaim. At eighteen she met prominent producer Nasr Mahrous, who paired her with future pop star Tamer Hosny for the collaborative album Free Mix 3 (2002); the record sold more than twenty million copies across the Middle East and North Africa, establishing her as a regional powerhouse. Sherine’s subsequent solo albums—Garh Tany (2003), Lazem Ayesh (2005), Batamenak (2008), and Habeat (2009)—showcase her mastery of Egyptian classical and Khaliji styles and earned her multiple awards from Rotana Music Group, her longtime label. In addition to music, she pursued acting, starring opposite Ahmed Helmy in the 2003 comedy Mido Mashakel and later leading the Ramadan series Taree’i (2015), where she portrayed a young woman striving to become a singer despite family opposition. From 2015 to 2017 she served as a judge on MBC’s The Voice: Ahla Sawt, bringing her critical ear to new talent, and in 2017 she hosted her own talk‑show Sherry’s Studio on DMC. Her career has not been without controversy; a 2017 concert joke about drinking Nile water led the Egyptian Musicians Syndicate to suspend her performance rights, prompting a public apology. Personally, Sherine married composer Mohamed Moustafa in 2007 (divorced 2012) and pop singer Hossam Habib in 2018; the couple remarried in 2022, divorced again in 2023, and she has two daughters from her first marriage. Despite legal battles, she continues to release hit singles such as Sabry Aalil, which went viral on TikTok and achieved massive streaming success, confirming her lasting influence on Arabic popular culture.
