Alex, a directionless loner with a bad haircut, enrolls at Venice Beach Art School where he befriends Lizzy, Patrick and Gnome. Inspired to shoot a black‑and‑white political documentary about Gnome’s campaign to free Hawaii, he assembles a crew of inept film students and meets the girl of his dreams. Just before filming starts, Gnome, the budget holder, disappears, jeopardizing the project.
