In a desolate, post-apocalyptic Colombia, a rugged tribe clings to life inside a fenced-off corner of Grey Rock National Park. They hunt the park’s beasts to survive and steer clear of hostile, human-like mutants whose infection mutates people into dangerous, uncontrollable creatures. At the helm stands Uri, a traditionalist elder who weighs fate and faith when decisions must be made for the group. His son, Savan, is the tribe’s most gifted hunter and the natural successor to Uri’s leadership, carrying both exceptional skill and a growing sense of responsibility for everyone’s safety.

Nearby, two of the tribe’s most valuable salvages of knowledge are the literate siblings Kaleb and Miru. Kaleb is a sharp-eyed tracker whose talents often go underappreciated, and Miru uses literacy as a beacon of hope in a world where books are scarce. They were tutored by their father Jaret before he vanished, leaving them with a mix of longing and resolve. Kaleb, a dreamer with a stubborn streak, secretly loves Dorel, a passion that complicates his loyalties as danger closes in. Dorel, a figure of quiet strength, becomes an important catalyst for Kaleb and Miru as they journey toward a possible cure and a broader sense of purpose for their people.

When a brutal mutant attack shatters the tribe’s routine, the group flees into a cave and seals the entrance with heavy logs. In that tense moment, the elder’s insistence that they should pray rather than fight clashes with Kaleb’s instinct to act, and the scene exposes a rift between belief and action in how the survivors face annihilation. Kaleb’s quick intervention saves Dorel from a mutant, forging a life-changing connection between them and setting the stage for a dangerous romance that blooms under pressure. After the encounter, the trio resolves to seek help beyond the park’s borders to save the rest of their kin.

A stranger arrives as if summoned by fate. Amal, a weary wanderer, steps forward with a hint of mystery and a chance for salvation. He is accompanied by his wife Neenah and their son Persk, living on the opposite bank of a river that mutants won’t cross. Amal explains that his family has managed to stay ahead of the contagion by staying near water, despite the risk that comes with crossing into unknown territory. He also reveals that he once knew Jaret and has learned of a yellow powder that can halt the mutation process—if used before the infection fully takes hold. The path to this cure, however, lies in Gagen’s distant city, a powerful rival whose grip on resources and people complicates any straightforward rescue mission.

The companions press on toward Gagen’s city, hoping to recover the powder and save their tribe. Amal’s signal fire atop an ancient monolith becomes a beacon for The Brotherhood, a friendly faction that might lend support. But the journey is perilous: mutants relentlessly pursue them, and Amal suffers injuries that force Kaleb, Dorel, and Savan to press onward without him. The bond among the three deepens as they navigate treacherous terrain, cling to each other, and hold onto the memory of their missing ally Jaret.

Captured at one point, Kaleb and Dorel discover that Dorel has fallen ill—infected but not yet transformed—while Savan remains a stalwart, offering courage in the face of overwhelming odds. Kaleb unearths his late father’s notes in an old library hidden in the city, where a long-lost knowledge base reveals how the yellow powder is prepared. Meanwhile, Gagen’s daughter—seen briefly as a sympathetic figure—provides a crucial ruse that unsettles her father and brings Kaleb closer to the powder’s location. With the powder in hand, Kaleb administers a dose to Dorel, offering a glimmer of hope for both her and the tribe.

The trio escapes across a dangerous rope bridge, pursued by Gagen’s forces. Tragically, Savan sacrifices himself to hold back the pursuing soldiers, buying Kaleb and Dorel a chance to flee. Reunited with Amal, who has found The Brotherhood’s horses, they race back toward their village. The Brotherhood arrives just in time to sweep aside the mutants, allowing Kaleb, Dorel, and Amal to begin distributing the cure to the infected, including Miru, who is shown teaching the village’s children to read and write once more.

Gagen tracks them to the village, intent on reclaiming the powder. In a decisive moment, Amal throws himself forward to shield Kaleb from an arrow, while Kaleb drives a battle-axe into Gagen’s downfall, ending the threat. Amal survives a flesh wound, and Kaleb and Dorel return him to his family, celebrated as a symbol of resilience and unity in the face of catastrophe. In the days that follow, Miru’s return to education marks a new dawn for the tribe, demonstrating that literacy and knowledge can survive where technology has faltered.

With the immediate danger quelled, Kaleb resolves to finish his father’s work by returning to the city library and completing the research on the yellow powder. He recognizes that the cure could not only heal their people but also serve as a blueprint to save humanity from the mutant virus entirely. The story closes with Kaleb setting off toward the city, a quiet vow in his heart: to ensure that knowledge, courage, and compassion endure even when the world seems broken.
