What Is The Last Place on Earth About?

The 1985 seven‑part British serial, written by Trevor Griffiths, adapts Roland Huntford’s *Scott and Amundsen* and follows the rival South‑Pole races of Captain Robert F. Scott and Norwegian Roald Amundsen. It stars Max von Sydow, Richard Wilson, Sylvester McCoy and a young Bill Nighy. Huntford’s book, later reissued with the series title, credits Amundsen’s superior planning for his success and blames Scott’s errors for his party’s death.
