The premise of The Head of Gumercindo Saraiva without spoilers.
Set in southern Brazil during the final days of the Federalist Revolution of 1895, the film recounts a bizarre and tragic event. After Gumercindo Saraiva is killed and initially buried, his body is exhumed by opposing forces who sever his head as a war trophy intended for the Governor. Major Ramiro de Oliveira is tasked with retrieving the head, leading a small group. The story then follows Captain Francisco Saraiva, Gumercindo’s son, and his team of riders as they pursue the captors. Through moments of pursuit and conflict, duels, and growing tension, the narrative culminates in a final confrontation between Francisco and Ramiro, ultimately leading to an honorable resolution for both men.
