Two elite snipers are posted at opposite ends of a remote, top-secret gorge, cut off from the outside world for a full year. One is Levi Kane, a former U.S. Marine Scout/Sniper who is recruited by a mysterious organizer named Bartholomew to guard the west tower. The other is Drasa, a Lithuanian covert operative long allied with the Kremlin, who keeps watch over the east tower. Levi battles through PTSD-fueled nightmares as he adapts to the isolation, while Drasa copes with news about her terminally ill father Erikas, who has chosen to end his life on Valentine’s Day.

The mission is supposed to be simple: maintain a silent, impenetrable post while the gorge’s hidden location is shielded by powerful cloaking antennas, and the towers are booby-trapped to contain the grotesque lifeforms that have emerged from within the Rift—the Hollow Men. An ominous warning about a contingency known as “Straydog” hints at a long-ago catastrophe: battalions of soldiers vanished after venturing into the gorge in the late 1940s. The uneasy secret behind the site begins to surface when Levi relieves his predecessor, J.D., a former Royal Marine corporal, who reveals a brutal truth—that the cloaking and containment are maintained by a private, shadowy apparatus with its own deadly agenda. J.D. is killed on Bartholomew’s orders after a helicopter extraction goes wrong, leaving Levi with deeper questions and a growing suspicion that something far larger than a routine assignment is at stake.

Months pass with only routine scares and the constant hum of surveillance, until Drasa violates the no-communication rule on her birthday. She sends messages via signs and challenges Levi to a sharpshooting contest, a quiet spark that begins to bridge the physical distance between them. Then a surge of Hollow Men attempts to break the gorge’s sealed boundaries, climbing toward the towers. Levi and Drasa respond with rifles, automatic turrets, and carefully placed mines, managing to fend off the intruders and, in the process, to start forming a distant bond that slowly turns into trust and mutual respect.

About six months into the posting, Levi takes a dangerous risk by ziplines to a meal with Drasa. Their brief, intimate dinner becomes a rare moment of normalcy, a reminder of life beyond duty. Levi reveals he has been writing a poem for her, a small, personal shield against the vast confinement. But the following dawn brings disaster: a detonation of Hollow Men triggers a cable failure, and Levi must parachute into the gorge below. Drasa follows, arming herself for a desperate rescue.

Together they uncover a terrifying truth: every plant and creature in the gorge has mutated, and the Hollow Men are not simply monsters but the missing soldiers from decades past. Root cause is traced to a World War II bioweapons research lab abandoned after an earthquake caused a contaminant leak that menacingly persists in the environment. The facility has been kept operational, at least in part, by Darklake—a private defense contractor exploiting hybrid samples in pursuit of super-soldier capabilities.

As the couple digs deeper, they discover that Straydog is not just a plan but the original fail-safe meant to sterilize the site with a nuclear blast. The pair salvage a battered Jeep with a towing winch and use it to climb out, all while fighting off renewed attacks from the Hollow Men. In a decisive move, they decide to separate for five days to minimize the risk of infection spreading between them.

Back in the outside world, Levi’s monthly radio check-in reveals the bitter twist: Bartholomew admits she works for Darklake and orders Levi to kill Drasa. Realizing the opposition is closing in, the lovers’ enemies close down on their shared sanctuary as Bartholomew dispatches a strike team to finish the job.

Bartholomew and her forces reach the towers to find them abandoned. Drasa and Levi, however, outmaneuver the drones and destroy the cloaking antennas, exposing the site to surveillance and triggering Straydog’s nuclear detonation. The blast annihilates Bartholomew’s team and devastates the gorge, separating Drasa from Levi as she completes her five-day self-quarantine.

Drasa eventually reaches France, hoping to reunite with Levi, only to discover he did not show up. She finds a completed poem in an envelope marked “If I don’t make it, open at sunset,” left behind by Levi. Time passes, and Drasa moves on, starting a new life as a waitress. But in a moment that reopens old wounds and rekindles the connection, Levi appears with a lingering injury delaying him, and the two share a warm embrace and a kiss, suggesting that their bond may endure beyond the gorge’s ruin and the years of distance.
