The Emperor in August 2015
During the final days of World War II in July 1945, Japan grapples with accepting the Potsdam Declaration. A prolonged cabinet meeting struggles to reach a decision as the United States deploys atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. General Anami wrestles with the correct course of action while Emperor Hirohito is deeply concerned for his people. Prime Minister Suzuki leads the tense meetings, with Chief Secretary Sakomizu observing the unfolding events. Simultaneously, a group of young officers opposed to surrender plots to seize the Imperial Palace and a radio station, threatening to disrupt the broadcast of the Emperor’s crucial announcement regarding the war’s termination.
