In a dense London fog that swallows the city, a party of fashionable guests finds themselves stranded at a grand hotel where every room is spoken for. Leslie Steele, Merle Oberon, is bold, bubbly, and ridiculous in her own bright way, and she barrels into the suite of Everard Logan, Laurence Olivier, a coolly competent barrister who handles divorce cases with a measured hand. Logan protests, tries to eject her, and makes a few firm objections, but Leslie’s persistence and charm make eviction impossible. In a pragmatic compromise, Logan grants her access to the bedroom while he will take another room in the same suite.
