Smiley Greevins Colin Petersen is a mischievous boy growing up in the small country town of Murrumbilla, a place modeled on Augathella. His father is an alcoholic drover who struggles to provide for the family, and his mother works as a laundress. Smiley’s days are a blend of mischief and invention, as he navigates the rhythms of a close-knit community and dreams of a better ride than the bicycle that seems forever out of reach.
