The Croods 2013

As the resilient Croods, a family accustomed to life in a cave, grapple with the intense forces of nature, their leader Grug, played by Nicolas Cage, desperately clings to their familiar underground existence. His adventurous daughter Eep, portrayed by Emma Stone, is a spirited teen with an insatiable curiosity and longing for adventure that often clashes with her father’s cautious approach. One fateful night, as Eep embarks on a nocturnal journey, she encounters Guy, a resourceful modern human accompanied by his loyal sloth friend, Belt. Guy captivates Eep with a radiant torch that brightens the darkness, but their meeting comes with a warning of an impending disaster. In an emotionally resonant moment, Guy gifts Eep a shell horn, which she returns home only to see it destroyed by Grug and the others, driven by their fear of the “New.” Shortly thereafter, tragedy strikes as a catastrophic earthquake devastates their home, hurling the Croods into an unexplored, vibrant jungle below. As they venture into this unknown land, they encounter a menacing creature dubbed “Chunky,” a fearsome predator that Eep’s wise grandmother cleverly labels. The family’s initial flight from danger is soon interrupted when Chunky is chased away by a swarm of piranhakeets, whose insatiable hunger leads to the demise of a giant ground whale.

Undeterred, Eep creates another shell horn, summoning Guy’s aid, which appears in the form of his glowing torch. However, Grug’s attempt to control the situation leads him to lock Guy in a log, hoping to use him as a guide. Yet, Guy’s cleverness and charm gradually win over the hearts of the Croods, particularly as he speaks of a mythical land called “Tomorrow,” where curiosity thrives and is embraced. This shakes Grug’s rigid mindset and forces him to confront his fear of the unknown.
