In a quiet wooden cabin, five midcentury appliances—Toaster, Radio, a desk lamp named Lampy, an electric blanket named Blanky, and a vacuum cleaner named Kirby—live a curious but loyal life. They’ve formed a small family of sorts with Rob, who they call the Master, a boy they’ve known since childhood and who used to vacation here with his family. Rob himself has grown older, and the appliances sense that something in the cottage is shifting. The town nearby is buzzing with change, and the cottage is due to be sold. The sense of upheaval nudges them toward a bold decision: they will go out into the city and find Rob, so he can carry their oldest friendships with him into the next chapter of his life.
