The Beastmaster 1982

The gates of the ancient city of Aruk swing wide, as Maax (Rip Torn), the high priest of the city’s vengeful god Ar, enters with his acolytes. Inside the towering ziggurat that looms over the city, he confers with three enchanting yet terrifying witches, who bear the weight of a grim prophecy: the unborn son of King Zed (Rod Loomis) is destined to end Maax’s life. In defiance, Maax vows that the prince will never grow into a man, for he will ensure the young boy’s demise before he can draw breath.

Determined to appease the bloodthirsty demands of Ar, Maax announces that a sacrifice of Zed’s yet-to-be-born son will ward off the ominous fate foretold by the witches. Zed, outraged by this accusation, storms into the temple accompanied by Seth (John Amos), the captain of the guard, and their soldiers. They confront Maax, who, in a display of madness, threatens the unborn prince with a horrific fate. After a tense confrontation, Zed banishes Maax from Aruk, condemning him to the barbaric outlands.

As Maax is led away, a familiar face—the disguised old witch—sneaks into Zed’s palace at night, unleashing a foul potion that renders both Zed and his wife, Vanna (Vanna Bonta), helpless. In a ghastly ritual, she extracts the unborn child from Zed’s wife, sacrificing her in the process. With the royal heir’s spirit held captive, the witch’s cackling laughter echoes through the night as Zed mourns his loss.

With the high priest deposed, a traveler stumbles upon the witch’s ritual and, defying the odds, manages to kill her and save the infant boy, naming him Dar and raising him as his own. As Dar grows to become a strapping young man, he discovers an extraordinary ability to communicate with animals, a gift marked by a mysterious brand on his palm.

Years later, as Dar plays with his faithful dog Todo, danger approaches—the Jun barbarians, led by Maax’s shadow, launch a brutal attack on his village, slaughtering innocents and setting fires. Amid this destruction, Dar’s life changes forever when he loses Todo, and his peaceful life is shattered. Awakening from this nightmare, he resolves to uncover his true destiny, guided by the mark of the gods.

On his journey, he encounters a wise eagle, Sherak, and two mischievous ferrets, Kodo and Podo, forming an unbreakable bond of companionship. During a pivotal moment, he crosses paths with the spirited Kiri (Tanya Roberts), a slave girl trapped in the malevolent clutches of Maax’s temple priests. As they share a heated exchange, their fates intertwine, leading Dar to promise to help free her from tyranny.

An adventure ensues as Dar, empowered by his animal companions, embarks on a quest to rescue Kiri and liberate Aruk from the grasp of Maax. With rising courage, he assembles a ragtag army of rebels, including Seth and his son Tal. They strategize to confront their enemies, the Jun horde, while Zed’s health wanes under the oppressive rule of Maax.

In a heart-stopping showdown at the ziggurat, Maax and Dar finally come face-to-face.
