Thai Maaman 1994

Rasappan, a wealthy but irresponsible landlord in a rural village, harbors a quiet love for his educated niece, Meena. When their families arrange a betrothal, Meena resists, arguing that Rasappan lacks a steady job. To prove he can support them, Rasappan’s uncle nudges him toward politics, and he joins Paramasivan’s party to contest the MLA election against his own uncle, Velusamy. Paramasivan is cruel and hints at looting public funds if Rasappan wins, which makes Rasappan hesitate. Yet he decides to campaign for Velusamy and ends up winning the election unexpectedly.

As an MLA, Rasappan adopts an honest posture and begins to help the villagers. He persuades the people to deposit their savings in a new bank promoted by Paramasivan’s relative. However, Paramasivan and his ally loot the deposits and escape, landing Rasappan in jail. The villagers burn Rasappan’s house and seize his properties. Velusamy bails him out, Rasappan retrieves the missing money, returns it to the villagers, and then ensures Paramasivan and his partner are jailed.

Rasappan travels to Chennai to resign as MLA, but the Chief Minister congratulates him for his integrity and promotes him to the position of Home and Police Minister. Back in the village, Paramasivan’s henchmen attempt to kill him, but their plans fail. In the end, Meena agrees to marry Rasappan, tying together his political renewal with a personal commitment.
