Venkat Subramaniam is a brilliant Indian professor of mathematics, software engineering, and a genius who teaches in a village. One day a letter arrives from Perci Trachtenberg, widely regarded as the world’s greatest living mathematician, inviting him to a high-rolling casino in London. Venkat reveals to [Perci Trachtenberg] the existence of an equation that could not only redefine the dialogue on mathematics but also carries a heavy guilt from Venkat’s past. The narrative briefly flashes back to show a reclusive genius who cracked a theory that could redefine the principles of probability and randomness, a breakthrough that haunts him as much as it fascinates him.

Venkat tries to translate this theory into action through a game called Teen Patti, a form of poker he experiments with online. The intriguing claim is that if a player in Teen Patti knows the three cards of another participant (excluding himself), he can deduce the rest of the cards and predict the winner, all grounded in the theory of probability.

The idea garners momentum as the theory is tested beyond the classroom. Venkat submits his findings, but the institute where he teaches declines to accept the report, leaving him undeterred and eager to prove his work in the real world. To bring the theory to life, he turns to younger professor Shantanu Biswas, who agrees to recruit three student volunteers to participate in a live demonstration. [Shantanu Biswas] then assembles a trio of students: Sid, the college rockstar; Aparna Khanna, the studious geek who secretly harbors a crush on Sid; and Vikram Ashwin Dhar, the friendly neighbor next door. The group comes together to play the game, and Venkat’s theory appears to work once more, reinforcing his belief that the equation could unlock a deeper understanding of probability.

As the experiment progresses, Shantanu hints that they should push the theory into the real world, where gambling thrives in Bombay’s underground scenes, the addas. Although Venkat initially claims indifference to financial gain, corporate charisma and the thrill of the experiment eventually pull him in. With the trio in tow, they venture into the addas, stepping into a world of risk and reward far removed from the safety of the campus.

Soon after, Abbas Sheikh, a wealthy and spoiled student who happens to join the venture, helps organize lavish parties in casinos and private clubs, further expanding the operation. What begins as a controlled, academic exploration quickly spirals into a chaotic game that none of them can master. Money is stolen, a blackmailer surfaces, and greed begins to reshuffle loyalties. The group’s dynamics shift as trust erodes and betrayal emerges, turning what started as a bold experiment into a perilous, consequential saga.
