After losing their jobs as security guards, best friends Ivan and Josh start a music video production company called Video Aces. When they meet their childhood heroes, the 1970s soul duo Swanky Modes, the two friends hatch a bold scheme to win a new audience: hijack a Menudo concert, get Swanky Modes to perform in Menudo’s place, and broadcast the whole thing live across the country via a satellite link.

Behind the audacious plan are a few pivotal players: Bootlegger helps drive the operation, Self provides a wary perspective, and Camera Guy captures the chaos as it unfolds.

The story also features a cheeky nod to a real Los Angeles institution with a fake Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘n Waffles ad spot, weaving in a blend of music, nostalgia, and manic ingenuity.

Notable appearances abound, with Mary Crosby, Clu Gulager, Doug McClure, Lyle Alzado, Connie Stevens, Don Cornelius, Courtney Love, King Cotton, Doug E. Fresh, and Fishbone (performing as “Ranchbone”) among the lineup. The Dead Boys and The Lords of the New Church singer Stiv Bators, Ted Nugent, “Weird Al” Yankovic, and Jello Biafra (in a cameo as an FBI agent) round out a mosaic of cameos that give the film its distinct, irreverent heart.
