T-Rex: Back to the Cretaceous 1998

Ally Hayden is a 16-year-old with a fierce love for dinosaurs, the daughter of Dr. Donald Hayden, a world-renowned paleontologist and museum curator. She longs to join him on a real dig, but he worries it’s too dangerous, so she settles for guiding museum tours instead, dreaming of a day when she can stand beside him at a live excavation.

During this moment, her father and her sister Jesse Hayden are away at a dig site with Donald’s assistant, and an oblong fossil egg triggers a mysterious accident that pulls Ally through time into an entirely new world.

Her journey begins with a leap into the Late Cretaceous, a landscape where giants stalk the earth and the skies teem with Pteranodon. The scenes shift later to the early 20th century, where she encounters two giants of paleontology: Barnum Brown and Charles Knight, whose presence anchors her brief immersion in history and gives her a glimpse of the people behind the science she admires.

Back in the Cretaceous, Ally’s curiosity nearly costs her dearly as she inadvertently drops the fossil egg—an artifact dug up by her father and sister in a dig back home. Undeterred, she presses on and discovers a Tyrannosaurus rex nest filled with eggs. She must act quickly to defend the nest from a Struthiomimus, and through courage and restraint, earns the mother T. rex’s trust, even moving close enough to touch her under the watchful eye of these extraordinary moments in time.

The drama peaks as the meteor that marks the extinction of the dinosaurs looms overhead, and Ally is hurled back to the present day. She is joyfully reunited with her father, and together they depart the museum, their bond strengthened by the impossible journey they’ve shared. Yet the adventure isn’t over. When the ancient egg at the museum’s heart begins to tremble, the kitten observing the scene is the sole witness. The egg reveals itself to be a living dinosaur egg, breaking apart to reveal a still-living baby Tyrannosaurus, a quiet, powerful reminder that the past sometimes lingers in the present in the most unexpected ways.
