Mickey Mouse, Walt Disney, conducts a lively radio orchestra as they perform Franz von Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture. The sponsor (Pete, under the name Sylvester Macaroni) Billy Bletcher loves the rehearsal and agrees to have it shown in concert. The ensemble includes Donald Duck, Clara Cluck, Clarabelle Cow, and Horace Horsecollar, with Goofy as the sole missing member for the moment until the curtain rises.

On the night of the performance, everyone is ready, except Goofy, Pinto Colvig, who accidentally drops all the instruments under an elevator, severely damaging them and thus rendering them unable to produce proper musical sounds. Mickey stays unaware of the mishap until the moment to go on air, and the musicians must “play” the damaged instruments in response to the broadcast.

Throughout the outrageous concert, Mickey wrestles with anxiety while Macaroni vents his frustration inside a private viewing room. Donald grows so exasperated by the chaos that he packs his things and considers leaving. Yet Mickey, determined to carry on come what may, presses forward, and at one point even faces a tense moment involving a gun aimed at Donald’s head; the shot was cut in some television prints.

As the performance comes to a close, Macaroni is moved to tears, believing his reputation might be ruined, but the thunderous applause from the audience soon changes his mood. He races to the orchestra room to express his approval, lifting Mickey in a gesture of pure triumph, with Mickey Mouse unaware of the earlier turmoil that preceded the ovation.
