Against the backdrop of 1939 Thailand and the early days of World War II, the story centers on Angsumalin Richy Oranate D. Caballes, a proudly nationalist Thai woman, and her reunion with her childhood friend Vanus Nitit Warayanon. He is headed to England for schooling, hoping she will wait for him and marry him when he returns.
Shortly after, Thai shores are crossed by Japanese forces who establish a base in Thonburi, across the Chaophraya River from Bangkok. The occupying forces are led by Kobori [Nadech Kugimiya], an idealistic young captain, whose presence and charm quickly capture Angsumalin’s attention. She, however, despises him at first, resenting his foreigner status and the looming war.
