Set in a close-knit coastal community, the film centers on Rayudu, a generous fishing lord who donates his wealth to the laborers on his fishing farm. K. Viswanath embodies a leader whose kindness shapes the lives of everyone around him, and he even helps arrange the union of two young people who will become central to his world: Dasu, a steadfast local fisherman Kamal Haasan, and Ganga, a skilled carpenter Aamani.

As the story unfolds, Rayudu’s son becomes entangled in the scheming world around him, pulled toward trouble by the machinations of a crafty figure named Kota Kota Srinivasa Rao. To secure a promised fishermen’s colony, Rayudu entrusts a sizable cash box to Dasu, hoping the gift will pave the way for a better life for the workers. But the plan is jeopardized when the son’s associates hatch a desperate scheme to steal the money from Dasu’s home while he is away. The attempted theft sets off a cascade of hardship: Ganga and Nirmala suffer grave injuries, and Rayudu wells up with worry and fear for the future.

The turmoil deepens as Rayudu’s health declines; a heart attack tests his will to persevere. Doctors fight to save him, but the hospital walls echo with grim news: Ganga and Nirmala die in the city, a fact Dasu hides from the anxious villagers who wait for the return of their loved ones, including Rayudu himself. The suspense of the moment translates into a quiet, stubborn resilience among the community, who press on with the dream of the colony despite the tragedy.

At the ceremony marking the completion of the colony, Rayudu wishes for Dasu and Ganga to lead the moment and take charge from that point forward. In a heartbreaking yet ceremonial scene, Dasu performs the ritual using his wife’s ashes, a gesture that shocks the villagers and deeply saddens Rayudu, even as he comes to terms with the tragedy and the new reality before him.

Amid the sorrow and upheaval, Rayudu’s granddaughter, Sandhya [Priya Raman], harbors feelings for Dasu but chooses not to marry him because of his unwavering devotion to Ganga. Sandhya ultimately takes Dasu’s infant son to America, keeping him there until he turns seven, after which she returns him to Dasu. With the farm now resting in Dasu’s hands, he remains the community’s steady anchor—continuing to fish beside the people and to nurture the land that Rayudu so lovingly protected. The tale winds toward a quiet, hopeful resilience, where tradition and love intersect on the shores of a fisherfolk’s world.
