Sean, portrayed by Ryan Guzman, alongside his crew known as the Mob, are navigating life in Los Angeles in pursuit of their dancing dreams. Unfortunately, they face rejection at every audition, leading to their decision to visit a lively club where they encounter a rival crew, the Grim Knights. After suffering a defeat in a dance battle against them, the Mob contemplates returning to Miami, grappling with financial difficulties and the realization that they might not be cut out for life in LA. The crew has already resorted to selling their possessions online and are behind on their rent, making their situation dire.
However, Sean is determined to stay. During this time, he learns about an enticing dance competition called The Vortex, boasting a coveted three-year booking in Las Vegas as the grand prize. This news ignites a spark in him, and with encouragement from his friend Moose, played by Adam G. Sevani, Sean sets out to assemble a fresh crew. The Vortex is hosted by the alluring Alexxa Brava.
Although Moose has transitioned into engineering and is initially reluctant to pursue dancing again, he is motivated by his girlfriend Camille, who understands his passion for dance. With her support, Moose convinces Sean to get involved in preparing for the competition. Sean secures a job at a dance center owned by Moose’s grandparents, where he resides in a janitor’s closet, balancing his new role while recruiting talented dancers.
Among those Sean enlists are Andie West, played by Briana Evigan, who is entrenched in the modeling industry, and other crew members like Vladd, Violet, the Santiago Twins, Monster, Hair, Gauge, Jenny Kido, and Chad. A conflict arises as Sean’s desire for control clashes with Andie’s belief in shared leadership. Although he initially dismisses Chad, who teaches Cha Cha, he soon recognizes Chad’s impressive street style.
In a pivotal moment, the newly formed crew, known as the LMNTRIX, creates an audition video with Moose’s assistance at his workplace. Their determination pays off when they are accepted into the competition. However, tensions within the group escalate when Sean discovers that both the Mob and the Grim Knights are also competing, spurring them to practice with newfound vigor. Sean faces backlash from the Mob crew, feeling betrayed for moving on without them.
As events unfold at a local bar, Sean and Andie both acknowledge their relationship struggles, while Moose finds himself tempted by another girl during a dance. This leads to a rift between him and Camille, prompting him to temporarily leave the crew. Despite these challenges, the LMNTRIX manages to win an exhibition match against the Mob, but Sean’s frustration leads to conflict with Andie. Amidst their arguments, Sean recognizes his mistakes and seeks to reconcile with both Andie and the Mob.
Moose ultimately returns, and Camille’s admissions of jealousy lead to their own reconciliation. As they all unite, they uncover a scandal involving the competition’s host, Alexxa, and her connection with Jasper, the leader of the Grim Knights. Fueled by a desire for justice, the whole crew devises a plan to confront the rigged system.
In a thrilling finale, the LMNTRIX, strengthened by the Mob’s support, faces the Grim Knights. Before their performance, Sean takes the opportunity to inspire the crowd to prioritize enjoyment over winning. The crew delivers an electrifying routine, culminating in a breathtaking choreography that includes a trick Sean initially pressured Andie to perform. The performance ends with an intense kiss between Sean and Andie, leaving the audience spellbound.
Ultimately, the producers announce that the LMNTRIX has claimed victory, securing the dream three-year contract in Las Vegas. The celebration of their achievement, infused with hard work and camaraderie, solidifies their bond as they embrace the future together.
