In terms of art and craft, the special showcases a vibrant 2D aesthetic that modernizes the classic style while retaining the original character designs. Some criticism points to an overly colorful palette that diverges from the muted tones of earlier specials. Overall, the production quality is regarded as a significant improvement over past entries.

When evaluating character and emotion, the focus on Lucy is highlighted as a refreshing development that adds nuance and vulnerability. Many viewers describe the performances as engaging and the interactions as emotionally resonant. Conversely, a minority find Lucy’s portrayal one‑dimensional and miss the traditional dynamics with Charlie Brown. The consensus suggests a generally positive reception of the character work, with room for stronger ensemble balance.

Regarding story and flow, the special offers a heartfelt New Year message that many consider moving and thematically appropriate. However, criticism centers on a generic plot structure, measured pacing, and occasional heavy‑handedness that reduce its overall engagement. The narrative is praised for its sincerity but judged as uneven, leading to a mixed assessment of its storytelling effectiveness.

The sensory experience receives strong commendation, particularly for its piano‑based score and traditional Peanuts‑style jazz that underscore the emotional beats. Visual style and sound design are described as cohesive, enhancing both humor and pathos. No notable drawbacks are mentioned, positioning the auditory and visual components as standout elements that elevate the viewing experience.

Rewatch factor is viewed favorably by many who anticipate returning to the special for its nostalgic charm and comforting messages. Positive remarks highlight its timeless characters and the appeal of repeated viewings. Yet, some critique its length and narrative blandness, suggesting limited incentive for a second watch. The balance of opinions yields a respectable but not universal desire to revisit the special.
