Ski School 1991

At the All Valley Ski School, a long-running rivalry divides the house into two factions: Section 1, the refined leaders, and Section 8, a wild, hard-partying crew. Section 1 is steered by Reid Janssens [Mark Thomas Miller], with Derek Stevens [Spencer Rochfort] and Erich Blor [John Pyper-Ferguson] as his closest allies. On the other side, Section 8 is led by champion Dave Marshak [Dean Cameron], backed by the jovial Fitz Fitzgerald [Stuart Fratkin] and Ed Young [Patrick Labyorteaux]. When a Montana-based skier, John Roland [Tom Bresnahan], arrives carrying a letter recommending him for Section 1, Reid feels his position threatened and quietly ships John to Section 8 instead.

During a skiing session, John quickly earns the respect and warmth of Section 8, who welcome him with open arms. At a party celebrating an upcoming competition, John meets Lori [Darlene Vogel], a bright and impulsive woman with whom he instantly connects. Dave launches the first of many playful tricks, having Lori pretend to flirt with both Derek [Spencer Rochfort] and Erich [John Pyper-Ferguson] while John records the moment. She invites both to the same hotel room, where cut-and-splice footage makes it look as if Derek and Erich are sleeping together. When Reid tries to showcase his skiing to impress the crowd, the deceptive footage is revealed, culminating in live footage of Derek and Erich screaming in horror in bed.

As the competition kicks off, John continues to impress not only Section 8 but many locals watching the event. Section 8 keeps the party going, while Section 1 clings to discipline and form. Reid’s girlfriend Paulette [Charlie Spradling] grows closer to Fitz [Stuart Fratkin], and when she catches him spying on her in a Jacuzzi, his moonlit howl draws a laugh from her. Meanwhile, Victoria [Ava Fabian], a wealthy patron, begins to look at John with interest, and the two share a night together as John and Lori agree on a no-strings-attached fling; jealousy flares when Lori spots John with Victoria.

Anton Bryce [Mark Brandon], the mountain’s owner, grows tired of the mischief and warns Dave that suspensions and disqualifications are coming if the chaos continues. Bryce plans to sell the mountain, certain investors won’t tolerate such antics. One night Section 8 infiltrates Section 1’s gym to continue nabbing the spotlight, and Bryce suspends Marshak and disqualifies Section 8. In response, Section 8 crashes the finals in a show of defiance. Meanwhile, John and Lori rekindle their romance, evolving from a casual fling into something more meaningful.

The finals arrive with a crowd chanting in support of Section 8: “Let Them Ski.” Bryce relents, restoring Dave and Section 8 to the competition. The two factions trade retaliatory moves from the day before, and the contest ends in a draw. To settle the score once and for all, Dave challenges Reid to a race on the Dome, the most dangerous section of the mountain, with John [Tom Bresnahan] chosen to compete. John accepts the lesson Dave imparts about not letting the mind chase victory at any cost, and he leaps from a high cliff to outpace Reid and claim victory.

In the aftermath, Bryce sells the mountain and hints at radical restructuring. Dave reveals the mountain’s new owner: Victoria [Ava Fabian]. Dave and Reid finally bury their rivalry after Dave unexpectedly kisses Reid, who smiles in response. The ending hints at new romances and partnerships: Fitz and Paulette begin a romance, John and Lori continue theirs, and Victoria and Dave raise a toast in a hot tub to celebrate the changed landscape.
