The sudden death of her mother brings Myung-eun, Shin Min-a, back home to Jeju Island, setting a quiet, introspective stage for what follows.
There she encounters her estranged sister Myung-ju, Gong Hyo-jin, who still lives in the old house with her daughter Seung-ah, and Hyun-ah, Kim Sang-hyun, who has lived with them for more than twenty years like a family member.
Myung-eun, Shin Min-a, is a career woman whose hard exterior masks wounds from illegitimacy and abandonment, and after the funeral she declares her plan to search for their father.
She resents that Myung-ju, who like their mother is a carefree fish trader and an unmarried mother of a young daughter, seems to care little about what happened.
