Based on the inspiring book by LeBron James and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Buzz Bissinger, Shooting Stars chronicles the remarkable beginnings of a basketball icon. This story unveils how LeBron James, alongside his childhood companions, rose to become the top high school basketball team in the nation, paving the way for James’s illustrious career as a four-time NBA Champion, two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, and the NBA’s all-time leading scorer.

Set in Akron, Ohio during 1996, we find a young LeBron living in a cramped house with friends, where they often bond over video games and basketball. Among his tight-knit crew are Sian Cotton, Willie McGee, and Dru Joyce III, all of whom share dreams of making it big in the pros. Their passionate coach, Dru Joyce II, who also happens to be Dru III’s father, imparts the essential lesson that successful athletes must learn to finish strong.

Fast forward four years, LeBron, now 14, has his mother, Gloria, working tirelessly to support his passion for basketball. The friends find themselves at Buchtel High School, a place steeped in a basketball legacy. However, fears surface when they meet Coach Sams, who might dismantle their cherished group. Undeterred, Dru III learns that Keith Dambrot is moving to St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School. With determination, he pitches the idea of the “Fab 4” to Dambrot, assuring him that they can clinch the State Championship. Despite the school’s Catholic roots, the boys persuade their parents that they’ll have the chance to thrive together.

As they navigate tryouts and the realities of high school competition, tension mounted within the team due to the senior players. After experiencing setbacks with Coach Dambrot’s strict methods, the Fab 4 finds themselves at odds with the older students, leading to a decisive game that showcases their true skills. Victory over the seniors earns them much-needed respect.
