Sheriff Jack Shepherd Timothy V. Murphy is called to his station to investigate a bizarre arrival: a blood-covered boy who seems almost supernatural, able to read minds and share memories simply by touching someone. This eerie gift immediately sets a eerie tone for the investigation, hinting at forces beyond ordinary law enforcement and signaling that this case may reach far beyond a single town’s troubles.

Amid the tension, an unseen stalker roams the woods, killing and butchering people in a pattern that keeps the community on edge. The audience is led to believe the strange boy might himself be the killer, a classic horror misdirection that echoes the silhouettes of Jason Voorhees or Michael Myers in their darkest moments. The tension between protector and threat grows as the bodies mount and the mystery deepens.

Near the film’s end, the scope expands in a global twist: the dead rise up to avenge the people who killed them. These blood-soaked revenants hunt their original killers, and when a killer has multiple victims, those victims merge into a single composite being. The bloody boy is one such composite, formed from six individuals in the community who were slain by the stalker years before. He moves through town seeking the killer’s identity by reading minds, a silent parade of memories that gradually points toward the truth.

The killer turns out to be Helen Reedy [Patty McCormack]—an older local woman whose family was wiped out when the dam broke. Her decades-long revenge extends to anyone connected with the dam and to their families, a chain of harm that has fed the supernatural vengeance now walking the woods. The bloody boy closes in, using his mind-reading ability to uncover the killer’s identity and ultimately delivers a fatal blow just as she closes in on Sheriff Jack Shepherd.

As the boy strides away through the trees, he is suddenly attacked and killed by a larger, more demonic blood-creature. The film leaves the second creature’s identity intentionally unresolved, but its grotesque form strongly hints at a connection to the old woman who set the killing in motion. The ending lingers with a troubling meditation on guilt, revenge, and the uneasy bond between the living and the dead, leaving viewers to ponder what justice looks like when the dead refuse to stay buried.
