The journey of this film began in the early 1990s when the director, Bankowsky, was personally immersing herself in the world of combat sports while training to fight at the famous Gleason’s Gym located in Brooklyn. Her passion for the sport led her to start developing a project focused specifically on the burgeoning world of women’s boxing. The actual filming process kicked off during the 1995 Golden Gloves competition, a landmark event as it was the inaugural year that the tournament opened its doors to female participants—a group of athletes that included Bankowsky herself.
