Spoilers ahead
Danny Flynn, an Irish boxer and a former Provisional IRA member, returns home to Belfast after a 14-year stay in prison at the age of 32. He looks at the city with a wary eye, weary of the endless cycle of violence that has defined so much of his past. In an effort to reclaim a sense of normalcy, he tries to settle down and build a quieter life. With the help of his alcoholic old trainer, Ike, Danny channels his energy into something constructive: he starts a non-sectarian boxing club for local boys in an old, rundown gym. The project is intimate and hopeful, a small beacon of ordinary life amid the surrounding tension.
