Seventeen Years 1999

Set in and around the city of Tianjin, northeastern China, the film quietly maps the lives of two families whose fragile bond hinges on two young women. The sisters, Xiaolan and Xiaoqin, have grown up under a new roof after their parents remarried, each carrying their own dreams for the future. During a New Year furlough, Xiaolan is on the edge of her release, and a young prison guard named Chen Jie, portrayed by Chen Jie, is preparing to go home for the holidays. Chen Jie, who calls her mother to share the plans for the holiday, crosses paths with Xiaolan as she waits to be picked up.
