The Seven Golden Men is an espionage-filled adventure that combines daring heists with international intrigue. The story begins with the team successfully executing a bold gold heist at the Commercial Bank of Italy. Just as they are about to make their escape, most members are unexpectedly captured by US government agents. Out of the group, Albert and Giorgia manage to escape, but their situation takes a turn when they rejoin their comrades and negotiate a deal with Frank Rogers, the FBI chief who was behind their capture.
The plot thickens as the Golden Men are tasked by the United States to kidnap a Latin American dictator general. This general, who is allied with the Soviets, is to be detained for questioning before being secretly returned to his homeland. Giorgia is sent ahead to aid in the kidnapping and, in a clever move, she is discovered and captured. Posing as an American journalist, she uses her charm to win the General’s trust, ultimately causing chaos within his military forces. This distraction proves to be crucial, allowing the Golden Men to successfully carry out the operation and secure the General.
Once in custody, the General is interrogated with a mind-reading device, revealing that he is so captivated by Giorgia that he openly renounces his Soviet allegiance and agrees to become an ally of the United States. This turning point is instrumental in shifting the balance of power in their favor.
Simultaneously, the team undertakes a secret mission to seize a Soviet cruiser loaded with about 7,000 tons of gold bullion intended for the General’s revolutionary plans against the Americans. The Golden Men manage to transfer most of this gold to a deserted island, but things take a darker turn when Adolf, played by Gastone Moschin, succumbs to greed and megalomania. Along with Alfred, he turns against his teammates in a bid for the treasure. Their private war over the gold is eventually interrupted when Albert and Giorgia show up, expressing their disapproval of the infighting. Meanwhile, American warships arrive, implementing a blockade to pressure the Golden Men into relinquishing the stolen gold.
Despite the chaos, the team employs an ingenious trick to smuggle most of the gold to Geneva, using their resourcefulness to outwit their foes. However, greed still lingers, and Albert and Giorgia — now allied with the exiled General — plan to cheat their companions out of their share. When they arrive at the bank where the gold is stored, they discover that it has been confiscated by the UNO. In response, the Golden Men are seen once again breaking into the bank to reclaim what is rightfully theirs, setting the stage for a final showdown to retrieve the treasure by traditional means.
Throughout this film, themes of espionage, greed, loyalty, and cunning are intertwined, showcasing the high-stakes world of international espionage agents who are as clever as they are daring. The story highlights a series of daring exploits, betrayals, and clever plans, all centered around the Golden Men’s quest for justice and wealth amidst a tense Cold War backdrop.
