Roger Egan, a beleaguered meter reader, finds himself grappling with low self-esteem and the desire to approach Amanda, a mesmerizing foreign graduate student living in his building. In a bid to boost his confidence, he enrolls in an unconventional course led by the enigmatic Dr. P along with his unsettling assistant, Lesher. Students are subjected to dehumanizing tasks, like inciting violence or provoking conflicts with strangers, all while being reminded that quitting equates to losing their $5,000 tuition.

As Roger navigates this treacherous terrain, he gradually develops a sense of self-worth, gathering the courage to ask Amanda out on a date.
