Scent of Love 2003

Seo In-ha is a university student who meets a young woman on the subway, and he instantly falls in love. After joining a local book club, he discovers that the woman, Mun Hee-jae, is also a member. Although he makes a rough first impression, In-ha and Hee-jae become friends, but she eventually rejects him, as she is more drawn to another student, Kang Seong-ho.

Years pass, and In-ha continues his life in the shadow of unrequited affection. He finds himself working as a radio producer, while Hee-jae and Seong-ho prepare to marry. The distance between them remains, yet Hee-jae’s life takes a dramatic turn when she survives a car crash that kills her fiancé and her parents. In-ha keeps his distance for a time, honoring the painful boundaries that the tragedy imposes. But the pull of the past won’t be denied, and he soon begins to reach out again by reading out letters on his radio show, turning his words into a bridge between two once-divided lives. It’s through this vulnerable ritual that he slowly wins Hee-jae back, and the two of them eventually marry, choosing to build a life together.

Yet happiness proves fragile. Hee-jae discovers she is pregnant, but the news is complicated by a diagnosis of stomach cancer. Faced with an almost impossible choice, she must weigh her own life against the life of her unborn child, forcing them to confront deep questions about love, sacrifice, and what it means to carry another life forward. The story tracks how love can endure in quiet, steady ways even as fate tests the bounds of devotion, duty, and hope.
