Sarah… Ang Munting Prinsesa 1995

Sarah Crewe, a beautiful little girl born in India, is sent to a boarding school in England, leaving behind her life in India and her father, Captain Crewe. Life at the school is tough for her, and to ease her hardship, her father buys her a doll named Emily.

She quickly becomes the center of attention and befriends nearly everyone, including the scullery maid, Becky. The rich yet self-centered Lavinia Herbert, once the most popular girl at the school, grows jealous of Sarah and starts watching her with a wary eye.

On her birthday, Sarah learns that her father has died in a mining accident. Gripped by greed, Miss Minchin locks Sarah away in the attic, seizing her belongings and forcing her into servitude in order to “earn her keep,” while telling outsiders that the girl has disappeared. As Lavinia and a circle of peers revel in Sarah’s misfortune, they torment both Sarah and Becky, turning the school into a place of quiet cruelty.

Yet the story takes a turn when a friend of her father—Mr. Barrow—discovers that Sarah is still living nearby and not lost to the world at all. He ultimately adopts her to repay her father for his kindness and the courage he showed earlier. In the wake of this revelation, Miss Minchin and Lavinia feel genuine remorse for the cruelties they inflicted and seek Sarah’s forgiveness for their harsh actions, recognizing the damage their vanity and spite caused.

Through hardship, kindness, and a dramatic shift in fortune, the narrative threads together the resilience of a child who holds onto dignity even in the attic’s dim light, the warmth of unexpected friendship, and the slow, healing power of forgiveness.
