In a schoolyard fight, 18-year-old Dhruv Mathur impulsively strikes a fellow student, breaking his leg, and then bolts from the scene in fear. After the incident, the school expels him, and his parents send him to a boarding school. Separated from home, Dhruv remains largely unaware of the mounting crisis in his family as mundane routines take precedence over the larger world. Then, life takes a stark turn when he receives the news that his father, Divakar Mathur, has died in a car accident. Grief and confusion follow, and Dhruv begins a quiet, determined search for what really happened that night.

Hidden truths begin to unravel as he pieces together fragments of information from people around him. His mother, Nandini Mathur, struggles to shield him from painful details, yet Dhruv’s resolve only grows stronger. The investigation opens a window into his father’s business world, revealing a complex picture that contradicts the simple image of a devoted father. He learns that his father’s business partner, Robin, was involved in questionable dealings, and that his father was, in many ways, a good man navigating a tough landscape. The young man’s initial belief—that Robin murdered his father—gets challenged by what the truth eventually reveals.

As the layers pull back, Dhruv discovers that the financial pressures behind the factory’s sudden shutdown drove his father to borrow money to pay workers, and that his father’s death may have been tied to a sacrifice he chose to keep his word and protect his family by leaving enough money for Dhruv and his mother. The revelation reframes the whole tragedy, replacing anger with a deeper sense of responsibility and regret. The film concludes on a poignant note as Dhruv, now grown, seeks out the boy he once struck in school and offers a sincere apology, bridging a painful past with a chance for reconciliation.
