In the late 19th‑century Russia, Prince Dimitri Necklivdov is called to serve as a juror. The defendant, Katiuscia Maslova, stands accused of murdering a merchant to enable a robbery. Recognizing her as the girl he once seduced, Dimitri resolves to intervene and save her from conviction.
