Spoilers ahead
Wealthy American businessman Jack Moore (Richard Gere) travels to China to broker a satellite communications deal as part of a joint venture with the Chinese government. But before the deal can be sealed, he is framed for the murder of a powerful Chinese general’s daughter, and the contract is awarded to his rival, Gerhardt Hoffman (Ulrich Matschoss).
Moore’s court-appointed attorney Shen Yuelin (Bai Ling) initially doubts his claims of innocence, yet the two partners steadily uncover evidence that not only clears Moore but also implicates high-level figures in the Chinese central government. As the investigation deepens, a broad web of conspiracy and corruption within the state machinery comes into view, testing their resolve and trust.
