Quiz show victor Joe Besser finds himself drawn into a slick scheme when he is duped into investing his winnings in Consolidated Fujiyama California Smog Bags. The two con artists behind the scam, G.Y. Prince and R. O. Broad, promise a quick, easy return on his prize, a pitch that sounds flashy but leaves him with more questions than answers.

To recover his money, the Stooges — Moe, Larry, and Joe — head to the offices of the crooks, only to encounter two apparently sympathetic businessmen who propose a deal: they will reimburse the losses if Moe, Larry, and Joe agree to pose as juvenile wards for Montgomery M. Montgomery and his wife, Lisa. The arrangement sounds simple on the surface, a neat way to unearth the scammers and walk away with a clean slate, but underneath lies a far riskier game.

Unbeknownst to them, Montgomery is the mastermind behind Prince and Broad’s criminal syndicate, and slipping into the roles of his wards drags the Stooges into real peril. The sense of danger thickens as the trio tries to stay one step ahead of the sophisticated operation they’ve blundered into. The tension compounds the comedy, turning routine misunderstandings into moments of genuine stakes even as the performers trade rapid-fire quips and physical gags.

Reluctantly the Stooges plunge ahead, delivering a sequence of escalating bits: Larry and Moe pretend blindness while fending off overplayed tropes of showy deception, and Joe endures the outrageous obstacle of having a very large cigar consumed in a single gulp as part of the ruse. The antics swing from slapstick misdirection to playful deceit, with the men constantly testing what the other will believe and how far they can push the pretense before it collapses.

When the ruse finally comes to light, the confrontation that follows is brisk and chaotic, with the Stooges managing to incapacitate the criminals and reclaim the money that was so shamelessly misappropriated.
