Tianyang Wen leads a close-knit group of acting students in a film woven from their intertwined lives. The story opens on a sunlit beach, where each student introduces themselves to the camera, setting a warm, hopeful tone as they are invited to celebrate one another’s birthdays and grow closer through shared moments.

Aiyi Feng, a traditional Li performer, finds her heart drawn to the mentor, even as the age gap complicates the feeling. The tension between desire and duty threads through the classroom and the characters’ choices, while Jiayue Wang and Chengfeng Leng pursue money by mingling with wealthier, older men, testing the boundaries of ambition and integrity.

On the shore, Huhu Zhao invites his classmate Li Ya to join him for a day by the sea, while Tianyang’s girlfriend Ru Huang drifts away, ending their relationship. Aiyi seeks professional collaboration with the teacher, but a much older director tries to lure her with promises that threaten her aspirations, forcing her to weigh professional opportunity against personal risk. Jiayue and Chengfeng’s later scorn casts a shadow over Aiyi’s resolve, and the twist of fate is intensified by the revelation that Chengfeng was adopted by a British man who didn’t want her to pursue acting.

Ye Cheng, a nightclub singer, enters a morally complex arrangement with an older, married woman who pays him for companionship and appearances. This arrangement helps him land more gigs and even buy a car, which in turn brings him closer to his real crush, Jiayi Yang. He navigates a delicate daily romance with Jiayi while also sleeping with the older woman at night, a choice that pulls him between two audiences and tests his ethics.

The exploitation arc returns when the aging director who rejected Aiyi is approached by Huhu and Li, only to reveal that he has no need for male actors. In a playful yet pointed turn, Huhu and his friends dress as women to seduce him, turning the power dynamics back on themselves in a cheeky, troubling moment.

Xinning Tie and Xiaoyu He share a tenant-like closeness as roommates. Xiaoyu helps an elderly woman avoid a drunken bus driver, but the plan goes awry when a bus strikes him, resulting in the amputation of his leg and ending his acting career. Mom and Tianyang remind him that his talents can still flourish through script-writing and film criticism.

Tianyang brings a few of his students to a script meeting, but the encounter goes sour as heated arguments erupt, escalating into a car chase from which Tianyang must practically pull Aiyi from danger. Chengfeng again attempts to seduce a director for a part, only to face rejection.

A pivotal moment arrives when Li is told she will assume a role and is invited to a hotel room with the director to discuss logistics. Alone in the room, the director makes a predatory advance, and Huhu bursts in to intervene just in time. The confrontation ends with the director and Huhu imprisoned after the altercation, and Tianyang choosing to resign from his post.

A flashback revisits Xiaoyu’s early pleas for an acting job, revealing his initial placement as a set worker, a cameo granted only after a struggle, and a brutal beating by a gang. Tianyang comes to his aid and is left hospitalized, underscoring the costs of chasing dreams in a competitive world. Ye finds a path back with Jiayi, and Tianyang eventually remarries, with all his students in attendance at the wedding. Xinning, meanwhile, begins a long-distance relationship with a woman in Beijing, traveling weekly to see her and testing the endurance of new love across miles.

As graduation approaches, the Senior Artists Association president, along with Chengfeng’s adoptive father, organizes a meeting to finance and produce a film featuring Tianyang’s students who have earned strong reputations. The circle returns to the beach for one final celebration, a party that seals their shared ambition and the bonds they formed on a coast of bright possibilities.
