Shalini Aparna Pillai enjoys a life of luxury with her uncle in Singapore, while her parents and extended family stay in India. Her uncle’s mounting debts drive him to gamble Shalini away, and after losing, he bolts with the money he wants. He tracks down Saravanan and asks him to take Shalini back to her family in India, promising the three lakhs in return.
With the help of Vimal Karunas, Saravanan gets a duplicate passport, and the two set off on a long, perilous journey across borders through Malaysia, Thailand, and Burma toward India. A checkpoint injures Saravanan, yet Shalini’s feelings for him deepen—she falls in love with him in Malaysia. In a bold gesture, she has his name tattooed on her chest, using some of the money he earned; the moment shocks him but also draws them closer.
In Burma, Saravanan earns food money by entering an arm-wrestling contest, and they cross into India under the cover of a sandstorm. Shalini finally reunites with her parents, who hand over the promised money. She asks him to return in two months if he truly loves her.
