Her love for these sea creatures goes beyond science or fashion—it’s tied to memories of her mother, who took her to the aquarium and showed how the jellyfish’s lace-like tendrils seemed to weave themselves into the world of princess gowns. Tsukimi dreams of becoming an illustrator, and in her art, she longs for recognition and a chance to step into the bigger world outside Amamizukan. Yet she remains an awkward, hesitant soul, wary of social interaction, of glamorous people who seem to move with ease, and of the prospect of formal work that could shove her out of the only home she has ever known.

Within Amamizukan, the tenants form a tight-knit circle they affectionately call the Sisterhood, a group of NEETs who live by their own rules and support one another through quiet, stubborn loyalty. It’s into this enclave that a striking figure arrives—Kuranosuke Koibuchi—a stylish, outwardly confident person who defies easy labels. He is the illegitimate son of a politician, and he chooses to cross-dress as a way to dodge political obligations while also seeking a deeper, more personal connection with his mother.
