Ruth Huxley, a 35-year-old woman, finds herself unmarried and residing with her father while working as a checkout clerk at a local grocery store. As her former high school friends move forward with their lives—marrying and having children—Ruth continues to live a carefree, party-driven lifestyle. Things take a turn when she arrives hungover at a baby shower hosted by her friend Shannon, leading to chaos as she disruptively swings at a piñata and inadvertently injures a child. This incident results in a rift, causing her friend group to cut ties with her.
