Vasudevan “Vasu” is the heir of Kovai Group, a cloth manufacturing company in Coimbatore. Due to a misunderstanding, Vasu is disowned by his mother, Rajalakshmi. Years later, Vasu leads a modest life as a moneylender, living with his friends Soori as Kutti Puli and Pandi, and he falls in love with Divya, Shruti Haasan.
At a theatre, Vasu saves the newly transferred ASP Sivakkozhundhu (portrayed by Sathyaraj) and his wife from a group of North Indian killers who work for Mukesh Tiwari, the Pollachi-based businessman and hitman known as Anna Thandavam.
Anna Thandavam plans to illegally grab land that a village temple was to be gifted by Vasu’s late father Rathnaswamy. These events ignite a feud between Vasu and Anna Thandavam. When the land is formally gifted to the temple, Anna Thandavam orders his henchman to assault Vasu’s uncle Ramaswamy (Jayaprakash).
Rajalakshmi realizes her earlier mistake and reconciles with Vasu. Vasu, aided by Sivakkozhundhu and Divya, thwarts Anna Thandavam’s schemes by capturing the North Indian killers, which leads to an arrest warrant against Anna Thandavam. During the temple festival, Anna Thandavam’s second wife kills Rajalakshmi with a venomous knife, while Anna Thandavam himself rushes to Patna.
Hearing of Rajalakshmi’s death, Vasu travels to Patna to confront Anna Thandavam and his hitman ally Rai Bahadur, and he brings them to justice. He then returns home to mourn Rajalakshmi’s death with Divya and his family.
