K. R. Sathyanathan is a typical retired middle-class man who wants to settle into a quiet life with his wife Saradha and their children Uppili, Vicha, and Sindhu. Yet Uppili, a software engineer by trade, has no real interest in a traditional home and dreams of moving to New York after landing a job abroad. This clash between his overseas ambitions and his father’s longing for a grounded family life sets the stage for a comic yet earnest dispute over a piece of land.
Sathyanathan buys a plot from World Famous Properties, a firm run by Vijayakumar. When he goes to break ground, he discovers a wall erected on the plot with the ominous sign “Baby Properties,” and Baby demands that Sathyanathan hand over half the money he paid to vacate the land. The family exhausts several options, including hiring thugs to dismantle the barrier at night, but their plan backfires and Sathyanathan is arrested the following morning. The episode exposes a deeper tension between respect, property, and the idea of home, all filtered through a family trying to keep it together.
Seeing his father’s stubborn attachment, Uppili begins to reconsider his own priorities. He reconnects with his travel agent, Asif Bhai, to cancel the US trip, and Asif reveals a personal history with Baby, having once been his assistant and chased out of a land dispute of his own. With the help of his girlfriend Amrutha and Asif, Uppili convinces Daddy, a renowned stage actor, to play Varma, a Dubai-based NR I businessman who claims to be in India to sell a plot that actually belongs to the fisheries board. Through this ruse, the family hopes to extract leverage from Baby and secure their future.
The plan gains momentum when Baby pays Varma an upfront sum of 35 lakhs for what is presented as a fishery land, and Sathyanathan’s family uses that money to push forward with their dream of owning land. The film then pivots on a twist: [Johnny] reveals that there is no real Varma, and that the land actually belongs to the state government. Baby concedes that he has been cheated, choosing to cover up the deception to protect his own reputation. In the end, though, the family’s perseverance pays off, and they are shown living on their own land, a testament to resilience and the importance of sticking together.
The story blends humor with a steady, grounded examination of family ties and social pressures, painting a picture of ordinary people navigating a world of real estate schemes and ambition. The characters’ choices—risky, comic, and ultimately hopeful—frame a narrative about claiming a home and safeguarding what truly matters to a family.
