What Is People of the Lake About?
The premise of People of the Lake without spoilers.
Raised by a fisherman, a son learns the rhythms and challenges of life alongside the lake. This border region brings together Savoyards and Vaudois, who share a common profession and sometimes participate in the Resistance. During World War II, Switzerland becomes a refuge for those seeking safety, though they may not always understand the reasons behind the conflict. Following the war, the son enters politics, becoming a municipal leader and contributing to the rise of a new left in Lausanne and Thonon. Inspired by Janine Massard's novel, the story explores themes of identity, community, and the impact of historical events.
